We're out towards the Lockhart Basin turnoff and are but in our first canyon when we come across an ancient Taco Bell bell.
Then a couple canyons we could probably climb out of which is a big deal. Out here in the Moenkopi there are few canyons you can climb out of as they are mostly full of overhangs
What a great hiking winter. Everything from now on is 50's and there's some 60's showing up here and there. I feel bad for Jax. Elevation anywhere from about 4,000 to 4,400 these tumbleweeds grow and the stickers hurt a lot. Jax will pick up 10 or 12 a day while we're hiking. They are everywhere. He tries to step around them but there are so many. He'll take a couple more steps hoping they fall out but frequently he just freezes and I walk over and pull them out. We walk on ridges and creek beds where they are the least usually.
He doesn't yelp or complain, just freezes with the sticker paw in the air. I take it out and he's right back to putting his nose to the ground. He's focused with his nose to the ground and I with my eyes close in front and then horizon in front. Both are alert with out ears and smell. We exchange glances occasionally at intersections of canyons to make sure we're in agreement as to which way to go.We come across two vehicles. The side by side are guests and the little I think it was a Honda but can't remember for sure is a friend of theirs from Colorado who they hadn't seen in years and ran across him at Chicken Corner. They're down below towards the river looking at fossils and rocks. I think he said he gets about 150 miles per gallon.
