The Hayduke Record Gets Smashed

Haydukers #37, #38, and #39 came up the driveway having gotten here over the AmasaBack through Jackson Hole. From left to right are Spicy, Plate, and Sia.
A few minutes later Teresa called on the walkie to say four Haydukers were coming this way from Hurrah Pass route. Then up the driveway came Haydukers 40 thru 43. From left to right Bluegrass, Odin, Krafty, and Matcha. I want to give a show out to Bailey who came through a week or so ago and sent me a water report from Needles which I've been sharing with everyone coming through. Also to Teresa who more often than not, if she's here or not working provides food for those coming through.

The Train Station

Over all the years I hate to hurt a critter of almost any kind. Ants, an occasional scorpion, and a few spiders. That's it. I was even eating turkey bacon one day and two turkeys showed up to eat with the morning feeding of the birds. They were so cute I never ate turkey bacon again. I felt horrible. The rock squirrels have terrorized the place for years. They come in the lodge trying to steal the sunflower seed collection we feed the birds, they eat the wires on two of my three trucks, have eaten mine twice.
Digging holes and tunnels everywhere. I saw down in one out by where the rock squirrel Godfather lives behind Kobae's house. He's a monster. Looks similar to Jabba the Hut, but he's bigger, the rock squirrel Godfather that is. Their tunnel system looks like New York City. They go underground and then pop up 50 feet away. So, we've taken to putting Kobae food in a small cage and trapping them. This is number 18. Then we take them half way up Hurrah Pass and release them. There should be quite a collection up there by now. I think we still have seven or eight of them left. We call it the Train Station as in the series Yellowstone but we don't hurt them. Jax chases them around this rock three or four times and then they sprint into a cluster of rocks or when I start up the side by side Jax comes running back to the road and jumps in.

Record Hayduke Trail Year

Last year we had a record number of Haydukers come through and that was 28. We have blown by that this year. My picture skills after 20 years haven't gotten better, They've gotten worse. Ray came through.
Then Pocket.
Giving Tree was here.
Chosen was also here.
Cramps came through with them.

What Jax and I enjoy most

Hiking the land.

The Return

Ryan Johnson came back and hung out for a few days and brought me a new coloring book. This one is more about the things you can do and see at Base Camp. Adventure Activites at Base Camp Adventure Lodge.

The Holy Book of Tom

Ryan Johnson was here recently and brought a comic book he had created along with AI. It's Called the Holy Book of Tom and is a story about developers, maybe from another planet coming out here to bulldoze everything and Jax, Kobae, and I stand up to them on Hurrah Pass and defeat the Drea-velopers. AI got a little confused and put a shell on Jax for
a few pages and then got it figured out.

Haydukers

Rainbow came through first and then Shower, Private Idaho, and Medicine Man. After these guys came through we're in a four day drought with no Haydukers coming through. Still a new record with 32 Haydukers this year so far beating the previous record of 29.

Lithuwania

40 years ago they bought a little bit of land in Moab, Put a four vehicle garage on it and keep four Jeeps in there. Then each year they drive from Lithuania to Hamburg and take a non stop to Denver and then show up for the roughly 10 days of Jeep Week and lead some of the trails for the convoys. I moved here when Jeep Safari was having it's 40th Jeep Safari and they just had their 60th Jeep Safari. My friends from Lithuania got here during the 20th Jeep Week and haven't missed one since. They always come out just to say Hi during the last few days.

One More Thing

Four disc golfers showed up a couple days ago and said they lived in Moab but wanted to come out and play the course one more time before we closed. I don't know who starts this stuff. We're not closing. I'm the sole owner. No partners. I would know. I'm not going anywhere. If something significant happens someday I'll put it here on the blog. Until then anything you hear about something you didn't read on the blog is lying to you. Jax and I went hiking this evening after the rain cleared.

Aleatha and Sam

A few years ago Lydia worked here and it was her parents that did the update recoration of the lodge at that time. They just came to visit and we hiked into the Fingers. I wear gloves when I hike with Jax because he thinks he's a mountain lion and sometimes hides and ambushes me. Aleatha sent some pictures.

American Discovery Trail

Starts in Delaware and goes 35 miles past the Golden Gate Bridge. Really. Leif was here.

Hayduke Trail Part Two

Aspen and KC were here. KC (right) ask to take my picture. I posed. She said "Was like taking the picture of a model." Proves you can do the Hayduke with poor eyesight. Still KC come back again and often.
Delusion was here.
Guys I don't know where I wrote down your names. I'm really sorry. Feel free to left me know and I'll update.
Bailey was here and the evening of April 1st I just got a water report from her. It reads like this.
Hi Tom, The Colorado is easily accessible via the 2 mile road down to the water through Lockhart Canyon. Road goes straight to a little beach, no bushwacking. The water wasn't salty and didn't need to settle, but it was stagnant at the access point and tasted pretty bad. There are two pools in Indian Creek, a few feet deep and across, that do not have the white crust on them and other hikers said tasted fine. There's also a big deep pool just after you enter "we hope so" wash that I filled up at that tasted great (around 35 miles past your place at the spot labeled "giant pothole" on some maps). Hope this is helpful. Thank you again for everything! Bailey
