Lockhart Basin

Every year folks swing by the lodge and before they try it they come ask me about Lockhart Basin as I lead the country in rescues down that road. Because the first two miles at the Chicken Corner turnoff is the most difficult part of the road I generally tell people that when you get to the first spot where you have to get out and decide where you're going to put your tires, walk another 1,000 feet because there are four more spots just like it and no point in spending time trying to defeat the first one if you can't do the next four. Turning around isn't easy once you get in there.

Here's a good example of what you'll be dealing with.

Jax and I are hiking to the first overlook which is past all the early difficult places to make sure we give everyone good info having visited first hand.

When we get all the way to the overlook we run across three side by sides and the folks that rode them having a little lunch cookout. Thank you for the food Oregon. If I put any pictures on the blog they ask to make sure people know they aren't from Portland.
