Sunset From Hurrah

For the first time in months the temperature wasn't over 100 today and probably barely 80. For the first time in months, Kobae didn't want to go hiking in the evening. So with Linny in school, and Kobae catching up on his sleep, Tom was out of hiking buddies and got a chance to go to Hurrah to see the sunset, and it did not disappoint.

Is This Heaven?

"No Tom, its not Heaven, in your life, you did some good, you did some bad, we were going to send you to Heaven, but you were at Base Camp a long time. Which we figure, same as being in Heaven. We had to give you credit for time served, elevator down."

There Are Those

There are those, like Kobae, that protect us, each evening, on patrol. There are those, like this evening, sunsets that explode on us, in dizzying color. There are those, like tonight, when they come together. The lonely sentinel returns home and reports all is well at Base Camp. Really, really well.

Kobae Returns From Patrol

Linny starts school in the morning. When Tom dropped Linny off in her front yard at her house in Salt Lake, Linny said "Tom, look, grass." Kobae and Tom miss their hiking buddy of the last two months because as Kobae returns from patrol, nobody appreciated the sunsets as much as the Linster.

Beach Sunday, All Quiet

Twilight Time

Bats take to wing
Like puppets on string
Prancing through cool evening air
In a sightless glide
No reason to hide
Away from the sun`s blinding stare

The Adventure Continues

After two days on the beach Bill, Yeti, hangout with the Lugetti's, Marina, Alberto, Grazia, Stefano, Cristina, Nicola, Chiara, Ambra and Federico, along with Linny and Tom (Kobae was sleeping) before their departure, but even after leaving, Hurrah gave them the gift of a flat tire on the other side. Just Hurrah's way of saying "goodbye, don't forget me."

Linny Wishes

Linny wishes her and Kobae would be home by dark, but, Kobae is going the wrong way, and besides, who cares, colors are exploding all around her, it's a perfect day, and to quote a five year old, "Tom, it's not just beautiful in one place, it's beautiful everywhere." Amen my best friend. Amen.

Courtesy of the Russo's

The first picture is the Russo's walking around, let's see, why do they call it Chicken Corner again? The second, as they ate in the dining room one night, a bat promptly flew in the room, did a kamikaze dive into the cole slaw bowl getting stuck. Still hungry anybody?

Kobae Finds a New Trail

Kobae launched off on his own again and found a new trail for him and Tom with new views of the area. The last, has the shadow of The Saddle on the face just below Hatch Point.

Busy Day at Base Camp

Stephen and Kathryn and friends tubed down to the Anasazi ruins where Tom and Linny picked them up and brought them back, making two runs. Peter and Sonya, from Austria, had a birthday party at the fire pit for their son Flo tonight and Kobae, was climbing high out on ledges and looking 75 feet straight down. That boy has issues.

Dead Horse Point

From the rich detail of Andy Cook. On this side of the river you can see The White Rim Trail below. In the river itself, the bend is called The Gooseneck. On the far side of the river, just above where you see the reflection in the water is Echo Wall and just to the left hand bend behind it is Chicken Corner. If you could see further left you'd see Thelma and Louise Point and Mission Impossible Two Point.

You Could Have Left Something

The Russo's checked out yesterday and Tom was ok with them taking 28,000 pounds of fossils with them from their two days of fossil hunting, slightly changing the rotation of the Earth and causing some earthquakes in Tibet somewhere, but Zach had to go down and mess with the sandbar, digging and shaping, and now Tom wakes up and it's gone too.

122 days

It's been the day Kobae returned Wednesday April 9th, since Base Camp received rain. Ten or fifteen seconds of lizard spit now and then, but no rain. It rains at the Amasa Back, and on Hurrah the other side of the road partially washed out yesterday, but for Bill, Yeti, Kobae, and Tom, nothing.

The Last Hurrah

Kobae and Tom hike over to the neighbor. The lodge is in the background. Note the "male" and "female" hogans at Last Hurrah. The female is shaped like the womb and the male is shaped like the.......well, not like the womb.

Wake Up

Tom wakes up to see Outward Bound campers on the sandbar in the river. Tom wishes he would have known last night. Nothing more fun than creeping down to the river bank at night, putting a flashlight under your chin, playing Deliverance banjo pickin music and at random times yelling soooooweeeee.

Before Dark, Except

Tom and Kobae would like to be home before dark, except....
A. Kobae is still going the wrong way and Tom doesn't recognize any landmarks as to where they might be.
B. Tom is a moron for thinking he could get Kobae to turn around at all.
C. Somebody set off a nuclear warhead at the Saddle.
D. Based on what Tom sees at the Saddle, the wind is about to pick up, it's going to get considerably hotter, but on the upside it will probably stay light for a while longer than Tom had originally thought.
