So It Ends

Kobae does 5.1 miles Wednesday through the Tierrasanta neighborhood without one dog event. Thursday is a different story. So it ends. See you in March my friend.

Dog Day Afternoon

Kobae returns to San Diego for the winter and gets to do what he likes most. A dog pulls loose of it's leash and charges across the street to go after Kobae. The pleasure of the chase for Bella is short. Five minutes later. Five minutes later. Five minutes later. With Bella retired for the afternoon Kobae finds a target rich environment.

Kobae Wednesday

Lockhart Canyon

For over a month Tom has been telling everyone headed that way that Lockhart Basin trail is actually passable and not in bad shape for the first time in five plus years. After the rain of five days ago that can no longer be said. Tom surveys the canyon he just drove up on the Scorpa trials bike and behind and below him it's a mess. Of the four side by sides, one is high centered, one is stuck, and another on the verge of rolling over.

Monday Evening

Good Idea?

A female mountain lion is tracking a small deer and Kobae is tracking the mountain lion.

Sunday Hiking With Kobae

With Kobae's Base Camp time winding down Tom is trying to get him all the hiking he can before returning to San Diego for the winter.

Learning Curve? No

Suggestion

While hiking with Kobae, Tom continually finds shade under various ledges so he can read his book and watch Kobae at the same time. While watching Kobae, Tom hears a slight click to his left, then another. Suggestion, each time before sitting down, don't just look where you're going to be sitting, look both left and right.

Labored Breathing

As Tom pulls out he hears the sound of rushing water at the bottom of the driveway. Turning into the creek it appears passable but as he gets further along the jeep is slowing down and twice nearly gets stuck. Tom's not going to make it to the upper part of the driveway to have a chance to get out. Spotting high ground Tom pulls the jeep up and waits out the next 45 minutes for the rain to slow before returning to the lodge.

Thursday

Tom spends Thursday morning on the Anti Cline trying to get a count of the Big Horn herd and finds what appears to be an arch he had never seen before. When the afternoon comes it's off hiking with Kobster. With the days winding down before Kobae's return to San Diego for the winter he's getting in three to five miles of hiking most days.

From the Sky

Linny and Tom, Best Friends

The Prey

Cooper's Hawk

The Cooper's hawk who terrorized critters back in January on a daily basis now has a partner and is a daily presence around Base Camp. Tom walked outside and found one on the front porch and one minute later another on the back porch. Twice while chasing sparrows a Cooper's has slammed into the rear door of the lodge. The White-tailed Antelope squirrels have an intricate warning system keeping track of them and so far to Tom's knowledge no Antelope squirrels have been taken but at the bottom of the trail just before the river there are a couple piles of feathers and only feathers.
