Nobody left except Jax and I. All guests are gone and Collin and Nate are both up in Salt Lake. We didn't see anybody today so was a nice day to get little stuff done. Filled up Constant Impact with wood while in town yesterday so unloaded all that at the hogans.
There are two containers for birds to get water. The one up front is made of plastic and doesn't freeze much plus it sits in the sun. The one in the back was right up against the lodge stairs and it's not going to see the sun until Spring so I moved it out by the big rock in the back yard where all the little people can drink out of it and it will be in the sun at least part of the day to thaw. There is a storm coming with 50 mph winds tonight so time to buckle everything down. Bunji's on the trash can lids and heavy water jugs pushed up against them so they don't blow away. Water container facing the lodge it has water in it. Facing away it's empty and then you can glance down the porch when getting ready to go to town to see if you're going to need water containers to take with you.
Limbs have been breaking off the Desert Willow. I thought it was the raccoons climbing up in the tree with their winter weight breaking them but looking at them closely today they've been getting under watered it appears so I watered them good today and the storm should do it again. Walking around today draining gas out of the big tank into the small ones and picking up things not to be left outside in 50mph winds that could become weapons there's a lot of fox, dog, raccoon and various other kinds of scat around the property that needs to be addressed. No vehicles here except the lodge and Jax and I didn't see a single person today or hear any sort of vehicle out on the trail.
Song birds are in the bushes most of the last few days. There is a sharp-shinned hawk here. The males are smaller and they can sometimes get down in the bushes the birds are hiding in. I've chased him off each of the last three days. I may have a repeat winter with the hawk I battled several years ago. Which reminds me one day a month or two ago I could hear two women talking for half an hour or so on our Channel 21 and it turned out to be guests of the lodge. Our walkies don't get that much range so they gave me the type of walkie they had and I could only find six of them for sale and bought them all so we're experimenting with them to see if we switch over. I still have probably 20 of the others left so we'll see how it goes. I put food out tonight, no little people showed up. Very few have been showing up anyway but none usually means the mountain lion is here though the wind is blowing very strong out there tonight. Mountain lion usually shows up around Thanksgiving and takes a deer or big horn. I've been hoping it would pass from old age as it thins the heard some each year and was beginning to think that might have happen. Can only see what the next few days bring.
