Once the snow is gone all that supports the Colorado River are runoff from rain and springs up river somewhere. While the amount of water coming into the river has diminished considerably the river doesn't seen to be going down much. I had a guy hold a rope last week and I waded in to find the beach which was about 30 feet out and still nearly shoulder deep. I had to turn sideways to keep the current from taking me. On June 26th last year the beach was completely back, not just an island. Not this year.
