Itch Scratched
For a month plus Tom has been finding pieces and stretches of a land phone line. The route pieces have no pattern or apparent destination. Time to scratch that itch and find the missing. Tom returns to where it started. Thanks to Michael Kelsey's great book River Guide to Canyonlands National Park and Vicinity, the abandoned oil well has a name. Prommel #1 just a couple miles northeast of the lodge, drilled by the Midwest Exploration Company in 1926 and abandoned a year or two later. Tom begins tracing the line and cresting a ridge finds another spinoff site of Prommel #1. The second spin off he's found and the phone line goes right to the site. Itch scratched.
