Not A Creature Was Stirring
Out the office window there has been no movement from the neighborhood creatures for 30 minutes. Tom has scanned the sky and viewed the high perches and can't find the threat. In the distance he can hear the danger call of an Antelope squirrel over and over. Tom exits the back door and around the side of the lodge so as to not disturb whatever is taking place. Unexpectedly a Cooper's hawk is sitting motionless at nearly ground level across the driveway. Tom takes a step or two closer several times but before he can find how close he can get the first motorcycle Tom has seen all year comes by and the Cooper's takes flight.
