Getting Crowded

Tom began feeding the Junco birds each morning two months ago. Then four or five Antelope squirrels showed up. A week or so after that a Gray fox (hot dog), few days later a Ringtail cat (cat food), then a second Gray fox (dog food). Now with two flocks of Juncos (bread and seed) arriving each day and the Antelope squirrels (bread) are up to about 15 now. A Sharp-shinned hawk, but a darker color, has been hanging out trying to get a meal and nearly took an antelope squirrel yesterday morning. Today what appeared to be a Sharp-shinned hawk made a couple quick dashes in and out looking for breakfast.

It started innocent. Loaf of bread with just the ends left. Bet the birds would like that. But, especially in winter, everybody's hungry. Fox, squirrel, ringtail.....so I started breaking out areas and types of food to attempt to avoid conflict. Was a little bit one day, little bit more the next, now it's the Base Camp Zoo with all the feeding responsibilities.
