Good Day for Kobae

Kobae loves to chase dogs. He thinks he's a dog cause he grew up with some so he charges out to chase dogs to let them know who the lead dog is. That's gets him fired up and he comes back to the stairs and humps them for 10 or 15 minutes. Over two days he chased ten dogs and humped various stares ten times and finished up humping the porch for 11 experiences in 24 hours.

A Few More Things

Kobae is still here. He's usually gone by the middle of November but the truck I"m taking him in, the 250, affectionately called The Beater, had more damage than we thought when Linny crashed a month or two ago in the storm of all storms. Temps are in the 40's so he's only once gone on a hike and fortunately I caught him as he wss heading for the creek that takes him to the beach and I do not want to go through that again. He mostly stays on the porch trying to stay warm and sleeps in the laundry room as I sealed his house off. He chases a dog now and then, humps the stairs, doesn't eat much like he did when it was hot out.
When Jax got his stitches they were sticking out a little on his chest and every time he laid down on a couch, his bed, whatever, they would rub and he would think he had something on him. He was crazy for about three days running around thinking he had something on him. They gave us directions how to take the stiches out after a couple weeks. I put him up on the desk and Teresa went to cut the first stitch and he yelped like he was badly hurt. A day or two later Lydia and I took him to the Vet Clinic in town. I walked in and ask if they had time to remove some stiches. The guy said bring him in. I picked him up, walked through the door and the guy said "Where's the stiches?" I said "Where my right hand is." He said "Move your right hand." I did and less than five seconds later he said "Ok, you can go." Jax never noticed and neither did I.
Lance and Doug got the dock back up out of the river but it still has a hole in it somewhere so won't be going back in the river until that is figured out.
Most nights we've had three ringtails but a few nights ago we had four. There were five originally this year. Last night another smaller than all the others showed up. It's all confused. I saw it running around in the bushes instead of on the poles and it's coming out during the day time. He's hard to see in this picture but he's there.
I don't think I've ever hated anybody, with one exception. Back in the early 70's as the bulk of my company was getting ready to go to Viet Nam we saw Jane Fonda on tv, sitting in a North Viet Nam gun placement pretending she was firing at American planes. We pledged to make it back, along with many thousands of others so when Jane Fonda died we could pee on her grave. I've been fearful that she would live longer than me so many years ago I peed in a container and kept it on a shelf high in the office for the right time in case I died before her and my daughter promised she would deliver it should shat happen. I saw an article a few days ago that Jane Fonda has cancer and is not expected to live much longer. I looked up on the shelf and it's still there with a taped note on it saying "My gift to Hanoi Jane." Somebody must know there are thousands of us that took that pledge and I expect any grass in the surrounding area will be dead in 48 hours so they're probably gonna have to get tricky with her final resting spot. But there will be no rest for Jane.

A Few Things

We've been full for a couple weeks again and this year won't be better than the year before for the first time ever but it will be close dollars wise. We have three more check ins tomorrow Friday and the rooms, houses, and hogans all go vacant Sunday and the season is basically over. I have maybe ten reservations in Dec, a few more in January, and maybe ten in all of February. Finally we'll get some hiking in. Got the results of Jax growth back and he's good. No cancer.
The Domes of Moab have opened up across the river. What an eyesore and the reviews aren't so hot either. Somebody is rented from the The Ranch which is the name of the place across the river. The Dome guy says it's temporary while he searches for a permanent location.
The river is at it's lowest point this year. Can see how big the island is and our beach is massive. Jax and I are out walking on the beach and a guy on the other side walks out of a dome and says "How do I get on the other side of the river." I said "You're already there."

Stuff

It was just a month or two ago I was telling Lydia, Teresa, and Linny we should do laundry next door as the well at the lodge seems to be running a little slow. Years ago I ran out of water during a disc tournament one time as were doing all the laundry for the whole place over here. The we got two commercial washers and dryers set up next door and we're in pretty good shape now. However with all the rain of the last couple months, the most or second most I can remember over all the years it should be full now.
The driveway up to the lodge is holding up pretty well with few drop offs when the rains come through the the road leading to Last Hurrah on the north side of the property turns into a straight up and down drop off. Five guys showed up a few nights ago just after a hail storm and I told them I didn't know if I could get them next door but they wanted to try so we loaded up a bunch of shovels and spent an hour or so working on the road and got them over there.
Very tough night a few days ago. I've had a spate of people saying they were going to be here at a certain time and showing up three or four hours later. I went out and retrieved people on thie way here three or four nights in a row. Usually the got bad weather on the way here or they went by Mr and Mrs Google who have never been here. On this night a couple came in the door around midnight and I was teasing them with the Google joke when they ask me to come outside. They looked at me and said the reason they were late because their dog had a heart attack on Hurrah Pass and they kept messaging it trying to keep it alive and get it out of the vehicle for air. It passed. I suggested keeping their friend in their vehicle on this night and bringing it by in the morning. I took them out and showed them the wildlife vs wildlife cemetary that Linny and I made. We have a baby skunk that the raccoons killed, a fox Linny found on the road, three hawks the ravens have killed, a duck a hawk killed, the ringtail I found in the road one night and various other little people that have passed here. They dug the hole deep, put it in a bag, and put a pile of heavy roccks on it so it reamins undisturbed during it's time with us. As they dug the hole and lowered him down into it they were in tears and I was crying like a baby having to support myself leaning up against a side by side. I've said it before, dogs shouldn't die, they bring too much joy to people. I couldn't imagine what they were going through. The whole trip was to spend time with their dog. They left a day or two early and went home. I promised to keep an eye on it's grave and make sure it stays where it is. Lydia went out and put some pepper around it just to make sure there were no diggings going on.
Might need more than five shovels for this one to get next door.
No fixing the north side of the property road without a front end loader. Doug said he'd be out soon with a driver but hasn't happened yet. Hoping these storms are about over. We're way past the end of the normal rainy season.
Jas has a growth on his chest that was getting larger. I took him to the vet this morning. They weighed him and then carried him into a room and said he'll be ready for pick up at 4pm. I said "Excuse me." The lady said (it's surgery, he'll be ready at 4pm," I walked out the door without Jax. First time I've walked out of anything without Jax. I went through McDonalds and thought "I'll not be sharing anything on the way home and nobody is standing on my lap on the drive." I was lost the whole day. I'd hold the doors open, thought I heard him walking on the kitchen floor twice. He's got some stiches and going to take a while to heal. They went the growth off to see if it's cancerous but won't know for ten days or so. He's on his bed on the desk next to me resting. He's slept ever since he got back.
