The Song Birds
In the two days since the last post Tom has seen the Loggerhead Shrike once, for 30 seconds. No other predators. Perhaps his one month harassment war made some strides after all. For that matter, the last two days, after feeding, the House Finch come to the Desert Willow by the front porch, find a comfortable branch, turn their heads back on their shoulders and go to sleep. Apparently whatever amount of predators are at Base Camp it's better than down by the river in the Tamarisk where the song birds live.
This is a long video. If you're not into song birds or just want to relax probably not for you. Here's who you'll see. Stripes on their heads are White-crowned sparrows. Black stripe an adult, brown stripe juvenile. Black heads and grey bodies male Juncos. Brown heads and grey bodies female Juncos. Red chests and or heads male House Finch and brown and white all over without red female House Finch. In the last couple minutes of the video they get a little spooked. Fly away false alarm. Fly away false alarm. Don't fly away, might not be a false alarm and you're dinner.
