Tom and all others please be careful out there.
In 15 trips down the river, only second time I'd wore a vest. First time was the night before. Even then, I made a mistake and only fastened the bottom two straps. When they went to pull me out by the vest, it almost came off and over my head. Without the vest, it probably wouldn't have been pretty. The area around Base Camp, much like life itself, gives the test first, and then the lesson.
