Stuff

Kobae lives here. This is the third house built for him. Inside towards the back there is a couple foot drop off and then at least a 35 foot long tunnel that he dug.

This is where the first lodge fire pit was. In time the Colorado chipmunks moved into the wood pile. I'd feel bad each time I would take a piece of wood out for the fire pit giving them a little bit less protection from predators so the fire pit was moved and the chipmunks like the new fire pit wood pile better so they moved over to it.

This is the wildlife vs wildlife cemetery. Ravens would kill a hawk and I'd bury it here. Hawk would kill a duck, here. Raccoons a baby skunk, here. I'd dig a hole, put the deceased critter in a bag, seal it up good and place it in the hole. Put some dirt and then pepper on top, more dirt, more pepper, and a large rock to keep from having it dug up.

Some time ago some check in guests showed up around midnight. They ask me to step outside so we could talk. The couple said there dog had died on top of Hurrah Pass on the way here. They knew it's time was coming and they were driving around to give it a good ending. They tried everything to bring it back but were unsuccesful. They came back from the hogan in the morning and the three os us began diffing a hole. They ask me to bow out, they wanted to dig the hole. They were crying while they were digging and I was crying watching them.I walked away to give them privacy. When I returned they had taken all the rocks off all the previously deceased and put them all on Dexter. I never said anything and when they had checked out I restored as much as I could and have added some critters to it since that evening.

In the Day

We had a sheep pen with three sheep in it. Pinto, Thelmas, and Louise. Then came the floods and the fence went from being five feet high to two feet hight and the three of them forever on could just jump over the fenc to get in or out.

History

19 years ago this was a small little creek bed and I use to jump across. Then over the years the floods and one year we got six once in a hundred year rains in 15 days and forever changed the landscape.

Get Away

When Jax and I want to get away we hike up to Hole 13 on the Hayduke course and get a 360 view of the property and most of the valley.

Kobae, New Girlfriend

Kobae chased a dog, got horney doing it and instead of humping one of three sets of stairs decided to hump the fossil wall.

Desert Willow

Almost every year the Desert Willow blooms between May 10th and 14th. It's going to be close this year.

Water Level

The snow has gone from 15 feet deep in the Rockies to five feet. The water level in the river at Base Camp has gone up less than one foot. This is the lowest and slowest snow melt in the last ten years. The wood bog that is messing up our beach is not going anywhere unless the pace picks up. Every year was take the kayaks further up the boat ramp usually past the top of the boat ramp but not this year.
