2025
It's the begining of Year 19. It's hard to believe. So many wonderful mmmories. Linny spent so many years out here. Kobae has been here for the whole time except the winters and it's year 11 for Jax. Almost every day Jax and I are out hiking. In all of Dec we had one snow and it melted by Noon and it was the only day where the high was below 40. It was 39 and all the snow was gone. Jan is starting out the same way with the next two weeks looking like it will have one day below 40, looks like 39 again. The beach never really showed up. A large log jam got straned in the sand where the creek comes out into the river and directed all the water around the beach side and it never showed up again. Still good for kayaking though. We spend most of our hiking time now in The Land of In-Between which is from the north side of the property into the south end of Jackson Hole. With the new year I need somebody to come out and work on the roof at two places on the property and I'll put you up here. I had traded out most of the work for a guy staying here with his family but he hasn't done anything in a couple years so looking for someone else. My grandson Thomas who has been working here about 15 months will be moving on later in January and I'll be needing someone else to work and live here.

Christmas
Jax and I didn't do any hiking today. We had guests checking in and we needed a day off. Jax has slept through most of it. This Christmas Eve I've been catching up the blog and now a little after midnight we're to the last post of the night on now Christmas. Both of my guests are deaf. When they have a question the lady brings me her phone where she has typed out the question (s). They know they are the only ones in the lodge tonight. They have taken her phone and made the living room into colored lights rotating around the room all Christmas like. I motioned with my hands like lying my head on a pillow to indicate I was going to bed. She came over and she had typed in on her phone "What time is quiet time?")

In-Between Land to Jackson Hole
On this day Jax and I took the cliffs along the river to see if we can find a short cut to drop into Jackson Hole. Jax and I reached the San Juan and Grand County Line and kept on going. Jax and I got to the edge of Jackson Hole, found the road and headed back.Jax and I got back five hours later on our most strenous hike so far this winter. We walked into the lodge and Jax went straight to the office. Jumped up on the desk, laid down in his bed and was asleep immediately.
The In-Between Land
I'd like to hike the Jackson Hole Loop but I don't think either one of us have the 12 miles in us so I've been looking for a shortcut from straight up the river and cross over to the road hopefully cutting off a couple milss each way. We might be able to do that. We haven't been able to find a way from the lower level by the river up to the top to cross over and join the loop road in Jackson Hole. On this day Teresa goes with us. We hike all the way up the river to the Pot Ash Boat Ramp across the river and we can't find away up. When I stopped to take some pictures Jax laid down. He's never done that before. We're both in our 70s and it shows. We never found a way up.
Around the Property
We've done some long hikes so we're taking a break on this day and just doing the north side of the property. Sixteen big horn hanging around over there for the last week.

Deeper into the In-Between Land
We saw our friend across the river who shows up in his trailer this time every year. It is quiet out there. One year we could hear the pages turning in his book that he was reading while sitting outside. He used to have a terrible cough but we didn't hear it on this day.
The Canyon
I told Teresa that years ago Jax and I hiked back into and both got a strange feeling when we entered. We looked at each other at the same time and we exited the canyon but looking over our shoulder and back the whole way out. Something was in there and it didn't like us. When we got outside the canyon Jax and I sat down for 30 minutes or so looking into the canyon trying to find what had spooked us. I told Teresa we were taking a break from the Land of In-Between and did she want to go. She did. We found a canyon that was similar but didn't have the feeling to it. The one we first found had a Christmas like tree in front of it as did the original one we found. I don't think that was the canyon but Teresa said Jax kept staring into it. We'll go back soon and do it again plus the five or six we didn't have time to do.
