You Look Familiar

As I'm walking out of Village Market today a guy walks by me that looks kind of familiar. Johnny?

Warriors of the Hayduke Trail

The Hayduke Trail stretches from Arches to Zions with several other national parks in between. While some of it is trail much of it is navigation by GPS or map. These two fellows showed up and we're always happy to host them for a stopover on their 800 mile journey.

The Gate Mystery

At evening of Friday a family came by asking why the road to Chicken Corner is closed. I said the gate is open, I opened it. They said they just came from there and it's closed. So at daybreak Saturday it's off to wire open the gate again. I looked at the track when I got there and I think it's a woman that is closing the gate.

River

Spring has come. The last few days have seen two or three boats, a few kayaks, and a raft or two. Now the first camp of the river.

Friday Evening

The Gate, Again

Each year as the cowboys push the cattle down Lockhart Basin they close gates along the way and put up a sign asking others to close the gate so they can keep their cattle in a controlled area. Each year long after they are gone some do-gooder sees a gate lying on the ground and closes it. They visitors who rent vehicles in town come to a closed gate and think that's the end of the road. It's happened again so I have driven down to open the gate and wire it open so it doesn't get closed again until the cattle come back in November.

One Last Time

My concern under the lodge is that we sealed up so many holes and paths to get in that one of the little people might have got trapped in there so I set the trap one more time before sealing up the hatch for people to get under the lodge. Catching the baby skunk again my fears were not to be realized. When I got under the lodge to hand the trap up I could feel a pretty good breeze going through so some combination of ringtails and skunks has built more tunnels or entrances of some sort in at least two ends of the lodge because it was a pretty strong wind.

Hiking: Michelle and Jax

Some Stuff

I raked and shoved a bit of the beach to get a dry path going out to the river for guests.
Johnny and Sarah raked, flattened, and cleaned up all the tees on the disc golf course.
Mike and Johnny cleaned up the fire pit and sun dial.

Mike built a permanent home for the telescope, a new gate for Kobae, a board across the end of the porch to keep kids from jumping on the cistern, new wood on the cistern to hold them should they work around the board, extra storage space in the pump house, extra shelves in the laundry room and lots more books shelves in the office.

Sarah painted some rooms.

Johnny cleaned up the landscaping and re-mudded both hogans.
