Kobae's House

Kobae has thrown so much dirt out over the last week he can barely fit to get back in. Each time he does he throws more dirt out and it gets even tougher..

The Water Bowl

In 100 minutes this is who visited the water bowl and the Go Pro camera. I was on the back porch reading and came out to check on the camera and it had been moved several feet so I brought it in and started the loading to the blog process. When I walked back out on the rear porch something had stolen my fly swatter and eaten part of it and the bottom of the last three pages of my book.

Who's Up

I hadn't seen Who's Up in awhile and when I last did she was pretty bloated so I'd assumed she was off laying eggs somewhere. Though not positive, looks like she's back.

Kobae's House: Day Six of the Remodel

Kobae has thrown so much dirt out the last couple days he can no longer fit in the door and has to do some work to gain entrance. Once in, back to work.

Morning in Lockhart Basin

Kobae's House: Day Five of the Remodel

It's 6 am

For almost a week the Go Pro has been in the jeep in town that I had lent to Jason who was doind some work around the lodge. The GoPro and the blog have been missing some pretty good hikes in the morning so since Jason had to be to work at his real job at 6:30 I said I'd meet him at the end of the pavement at 6am, meaning a 5:10 departure time from the lodge. The first ten minutes on the trials bike was pretty dark but arriving at the top of Hurrah it lightened up some and was well, canyon lands. Even at 6am on the way back was pretty nice.

Somebody's Been Doing Their Homework

This Side-blotched lizard has seen the flies visit Kobae's food when he's done and though it didn't work this time, it will.

Evening in the Canyon Lands

Kobae's House

For 20 minutes dirt and dust have been flying out of Kobae's house as he remodels. Something just isn't the way he likes it.

Behind the Rocks, Rock

This is the craziest rock I've ever seen. Crystal standing next to it puts it all in perspective.

Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose

Two days after having run a marathon here they are hiking from Hurrah to Scorched Earth with me, in running shoes. Colette, Crystal, Alex, Daniel, and Timothy, something special.

Mystery Solved, Twice

Why was there dirt on the camera?

Rock Squirrels

For a couple years now I've had four large rock squirrels and several smaller ones and though not changing the amount of food put out collectively for all the critters there are a lot of rock squirrels this year and disagreements are breaking out much more frequently than before.

Mystery Solved

I wondered why the camera had dirt all in it.

A New Level of Confused is Born

Since the heavy rains of last fall the water pour off has made it look like the driveway up to Base Camp is the main trail versus the one going out to Jackson Hole. It's no longer unusual for 10 plus vehicles a week to pull up the driveway and see it's a dwelling and turn around. Maybe once a week someone will drive right by the lodge, even with me standing on the porch, and up the trail to the dead end at the hogans before they figure it out and turn around. On this day a new level of confused is born. I heard the side by side coming and stepped out on the porch to see them drive right by not even slowing down. Up the trail, to the lower hogan, and then drive around it where no road or tracks exist and disappear. I head up the hill and they're 100 feet down the hill almost to the big drop off that would take them into the river. If swearing is a problem for you, click out. I start yelling at them, crazy yelling. They panic trying to find a way back up without having to get anywhere close to me. The side by side is high centered, then leaning and almost rolling over, free again and then high centered on a rock that is about to roll. They are done and about to die. They both jump out and are pushing against the side by side to keep it from rolling over. They can't move or the side by side rolls down the hill and probably into the river. I smile and walk back down the hill, get something to eat, brush my teeth, see what's on TV for later, grab the GoPro, and then drive the truck up the hill just as two of their friends show up. This is what happens next.

Castle Valley

Alf, who watches the place for me occasionally while I'm transporting Kobae to San Diego and back and has contributed quite a few pictures to the blog moved to Castle Valley, a bit east of Moab. This morning he sent me a picture of his humble abode. Click on it to make it larger.

Double Groceries

When the Let's Play regional meeting left there was a whole bunch of food left. It took two full loads of the kayak to get everything across the river to Johnny. In a full river with quite some current the short ride back was a work out.

San Diego

With the rodeo complete my best friend in the whole world is off to San Diego for part of the summer. See you soon Linster.

Canyonlands Rodeo

There's a lot to do and see at the rodeo but the reason most go and they always run it last is to see the bull riding. Here's a few.

Don't Know

Found this half way down the other side of Hurrah Pass this morning. Burnt plastic and four springs are all that was left.
