While the Canadians make pinpoint landings in the river, Kobae, well, is Kobae.

Storm a Coming

When Kobae began the walk at 4pm it was a nice day. At 5pm Tom could see the gathering storm and tried to change Kobae's direction. Kobae at 9 inches tall, wasn't as concerned about wind and lightning as Tom was. Returning to the lodge office, the damage was done.

A Day At The Catacombs

Kobae Found

Kobae had been missing 22 hours. Tom's legs were cramping and along with Gaylen, Logan, and Doug, they were wearing down with darkness again approaching. Logan called out. "In the bush, he's in the bush." And Kobae was returned home.

First Sign

At 2:30pm the following day, the first sign of Kobae, though well outside the perimeter Tom had expected. An hour later another, with fresh mud. Then a third at a dead end, and a fourth sliding down a ridge taking the rocks with him. Kobae was still missing, but alive.

Kobae Lost

Tom was watering in front of the lodge as Kobae ate. When Tom turned back, Kobae was gone. From 6:30pm to 9:30pm Tom searched in vain for Kobae. When the sun set all Tom could do was cry "Wilson". Then the rains came, wiping out any trail.

Battered, Bruised, But a Survivor

As Kobae explores, the ground collapses beneath him. Struggling seems to make it worse. Eventually, after an hour of fighting, with two dirt eyes, Kobae emerges.

Kobae, rising from his afternoon nap, checks the temperature, undaunted, a new adventure begins.

And It Begins Again

Tom and Bill have just rescued their 16th and 17th people from the mud of last week's rains. Exhausted, they return to the lodge for food and sleep, when they hear a familiar noise, and it begins again.
